Personal devices

Personal devices are a given, it’s a question of safely implementing them onto the network

Personal devices are being used on corporate networks, whether IT departments endorse, discourage or ignore this.

People want funky devices, and they want to use things like instant messaging, personal email and social media to extend their personal online lifestyle into their working time, just as they often extend work into their own time. We're seeing that people are either customising corporate devices with personal applications, or working out how to transfer their corporate applications onto their own devices. Either way this poses control, security and support challenges for IT.

We're working with our customers to understand, plan, manage and secure this activity. There are a number of different models, ranging from total acceptance and support to rigorous prohibition, with many organisations choosing a layered combination to cater for various types of users based on different requirements and privileges.

There are a few waypoints to a personal device strategy. These include the technical policies and processes as well as written policies implemented in conjunction with other departments like HR and Finance.

Would you like to talk to some of our customers who have already implemented a personal device strategy? We can arrange it.
